Ed Gibson - Profile

Background
Ed’s started his career as an accountant in London, England and held senior management positions with a major UK corporation with branches throughout the world.  In Canada, he served as Vice President responsible for Strategic Planning, Marketing and Finance for a provincial crown corporation with assets exceeding $50 million.  He therefore brings to his Market Research practice a wealth of solid business experience and provides his clients with sound practical recommendations.

Memberships
Ed holds the prestigious CMRP (Certified Marketing Research Professional) designation, issued by MRIA (Marketing Research & Intelligence Association), Canada’s only national marketing research and accrediting agency.  His is also a member of QRCA and MRA.  For MRIA, he is a Chapter President, National Board member, and serves as a member of the Government Relations Committee and the Audit Committee.

Qualitative Research
Ed has been moderating since 1994 and his style is influenced by formal moderator training tempered by the reality imposed by practical business experience.  He comfortably relates to and empathises with respondents at all levels.  He readily utilizes the full range of the moderator’s toolbox, and regularly attends seminars both in Canada and the US to keep abreast of current trends in the industry.  He has published articles on Qualitative Research for Canada’s Market Research & Intelligence Association and for the US Market Research Association; he was a guest speaker at the 2006 MRIA conference.

Medical Market Research
With his background as a senior executive, Ed has become a moderator of choice for higher level, technical projects particularly in the medical and pharmaceutical field.  His relaxed style, interspersed with humour, is particularly effective in eliciting open and comprehensive responses from physicians.  He acts as the accredited medical moderator for a number of large US, UK and Canadian companies who specialize in medical market research.  Medical market research is conducted under the banner Pharmafield Research Ltd., a organization of which Ed is President.

Quantitative Research and Fieldwork (including Medical)
Ed is Founder and President of Consumer Research Centre Ltd., a market research field service company specializing in providing quantitative and qualitative field services across Canada.  With offices in Vancouver and Toronto, the company operates focus group facilities and has a dedicated qualitative recruiting call centre with a full-time medical department.  A proprietary database of opted-in respondents (including sections for physicians and patients) is used for both qualitative recruiting and for online data collection.  When combined with an in-house call centre, this has proven to be a powerful tool for recruiting low incidence targets.  Other services include executive and physician interviewing (both on-site and by telephone), central location testing and in-home product placement.
